Kenner Star Wars Blue Snaggletooth action figure

The Kenner Star Wars Blue Snaggletooth action figure is a collectible action figure made by Kenner in the late 1970s.

Snaggletooth

Snaggletooth was a character in the original Star Wars film, now known as Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, released in 1977.

History of Blue Snggletooth

The Blue Snaggletooth was issued through North American department store Sears, which had a deal with Kenner to release a play set called the Cantina Adventure set. Blue Snaggletooth was issued through this set with three other figures: Greedo, Snaggletooth and Hammerhead.

Blue Snaggletooth was also packaged with a Greedo figure as a $3.66 "mail-away", also known as a "mail-in".

Kenner’s toy designers were forced to create the figure from a black and white photograph of the character’s head, prior to the release of the first Star Wars film in 1977. Kenner was also heavily pushed for time in a rush to produce the figures so in time to capitalise on the release of the film.

These factors led to the figure being given a blue outfit instead of the red one featured in the film.

The figure was also made to regular 3 3/4 inch height like most other figures, as the designers had been given no guide as to the character's height. In the film, Snaggletooth was just 3 feet tall.

Upon realising these errors, production of the Blue Snaggletooth was halted and correctly proportioned and attired Snaggletooths was released, but not before a large number of Blue Snaggletooths were produced.

Blue Snaggletooth's belt

The inspiration for the motif on the figure's belt buckle came from a logo on a Kenner toy designer's business card.

Value

The average market value for a good condition Blue Snaggletooth is around $150 to $200.
