ST HELENA 1922-37 £1 grey and purple/red, SG96
St Helena 1922-37 £1 grey and purple/red, lower marginal with part centre guide (R5/6), SG96.
A brilliant quality unmounted mint marginal example with full original gum, (hinged in margin only).
Choice quality and now very scarce, especially in such pristine condition and unmounted mint. Only 98 sheets were originally printed.
This definitive issue first released in 1922 was designed by the St Helena-born Postmaster Thomas R. Bruce. It was similar to the 1912-16 pictorials, but instead of the Government House or the Wharf, these stamps showed the badge of St. Helena - a three-masted sailing ship near two large rocks.
