South Africa Transvaal Wolmaransstad 1900 cover, SG9
South Africa Transvaal Wolmaransstad 1900 (21 JUL) cover locally addressed to 'Mr Jac Clouston' in Leask's handwriting, franked by 1900 (24 June) 1d red 'Penny Post' commemorative, type L4 overprint in blue, horizontal pair, tied by two strikes of black double-ring circular date stamps (with 'Z. A. R.' partly removed at foot), SG9.
Vertical cover folds (one of which affects the left stamp), otherwise lovely and clean and neat.
A rare and most interesting cover, addressed to Leask's assistant who had been responsible for the actual overprinting of the Wolmaransstad issue.
Provenance: Illustrated on p.22 of the book by Birkhead and Groenewald, and showing the last known date of use of the defaced circular date stamp.
