South Africa Orange Free State 1868-94 6d imperforate colour trials on ungummed wove, respectively in red-brown, rose (issued colour) and orange-buff, SG4.
Presented in matching blocks of 12 (6x2) being the top two rows of the upper right panes preserved in the De La Rue archives, each with plate number ‘1’, with bold M/S endorsements in upper margins ‘Color for 1d Duty’, ‘Color for 6d Duty’ and 'Color for 1/- Duty’.
A unique and wonderful trio in exceptional condition, the most important (and probably the largest) surviving multiples from the panes of 60 divided up in 1976.
