SKU PT2009
  • A superb four-page handwritten letter by Princess Diana, written on official Kensington Palace royal stationary and dated November 11, 1989.

Princess Diana (July 1, 1961 - August 31, 1997) was the former wife of Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, and the mother of Princes William and Harry.

Diana was known as "the people's Princess", and was renowned as both a fashion icon and a tireless humanitarian. Her tragic death in August 1997 was met with worldwide mourning, and she remains a much-loved figure to this day.

A hand written letter in black pen ink over four sides of two off-white sheets of 'Kensington Palace' headed stationery (approx. 4.5 by 7.5 in), dated November 11th 1989.

The letter was written to Diana's travelling Royal bodyguard Sgt. Ronald Lewis, shortly after returning from an official tour of Hong Kong.

In full the letter reads 'Dear Sgt. Lewis, The glasses you found for me caused a great deal of laughter and excitement on the return flight and we all wished that you'd been with us! I just wanted you to know, as always, how enormously we appreciated everything you did to look after us on the recent tour.

What with the continuation of time change and climate it became a survival game, but we had a wonderful team behind us and no tour abroad is complete without one Sgt. Lewis! so thank you for taking such good care of us and the team - I promise to find a country that will have the 'A' team like New York! With love and renewed thanks for my glasses, from Diana'.

With light brushing to the signature and last few words of the letter.

An excellent piece of rare royal memorabilia.

Provenance: ex Stanley Gibbons.
