NEW ZEALAND 1909-26 'Dominion' 1d deep carmine variety, SG410d

£45.00
SKU JC3227

New Zealand 1909-26 'Dominion' 1d deep carmine, Cowan paper, showing the prominent 'Globe' flaw (Plate 12, R5/24), SG410d.

A fine used example with circular date stamp.

The Stanley Gibbons catalogue value is £50.

The first printing of this stamp on 1 January 1901 represented the introduction of a one penny universal postage rate for New Zealand. However, the United States, France and Germany refused to take them as they considered the rate too low. Contrary to such fears, the New Zealand Post Office saw an increase in mail volume to an extent which offset the loss of revenue from the lower rate.
