The Malaysian Straits Settlements first became a British crown colony in 1867. Stamps of the Straits Settlements were first overprinted for use in the Sultanate of Selangor in 1881.
Stamps from Malaysia have become increasingly popular in recent years. This is partly influenced by the large number of collectors entering the hobby from the Asian stamp collecting boom.
