A very fine unmounted mint with full original gum example with gold (Queen's head) omitted.
Offered with an example of the normal miniature sheet for comparison purposes.
A scarce QEII error. Pierron records only 31 mint examples.
The miniature sheet was issued to commemorate the centenary of the death of Sir Rowland Hill, the founder of the prepaid postal system with the introduction of the penny black which was subsequently adopted throughout the world.
The premium on the sales of these miniature sheets was used to support funding of the London 1980 International Stamp Exhibition.
