China 1897 (Jan) set of 10 to 30c on 24ca rose-carmine, small figure surcharge on Dowager Empress (1st printing), SG37/46.
A fine mint set of 10, each in a vertical pair. The 5c on 5c and 10c on 12ca pairs are lightly toned (as often seen), the others are lovely and fresh, all with large part to full original gum.
A rare set to complete in multiples, particularly in this quality.
The Dowager Empress stamps were the very first commemorative stamps issued by China. They were issued to celebrate the 60th Birthday of the Dowager Empress, one of the most powerful women in the history of China.
