Great Britain 1882 £1 brown-lilac Plate 1, SG132

£6,500.00
SKU RS3951

Great Britain 1882 £1 brown-lilac Plate 1 (Blued Paper), SG132.

An exceptionally fine used example lettered 'AA', neatly cancelled by a crisp Porchester Rd/Bayswater circular date stamp for 'JU.1.1883'.

A particularly fine example of this difficult high value Queen Victoria surface printed stamp.

The rarity of this stamp is due to the high denomination which was only used in major cities at the time. The hobby of stamp collecting was only beginning to gain popularity in 1882 and very few collectors could afford to spend £1 on a stamp at that time (the equivalent to around £150 in today's money terms).

Accompanied with a 2006 Brandon Certificate of Authenticity.
