A superb used four margin horizontal pair lettered 'LI-LJ', beautifully tied to a clean fresh cover by crisp red Maltese Crosses. Sent from Plymouth to London and backstamped accordingly for 'SP.28-30. 1840'.
A magnificent exhibition quality cover, a great rarity in such exceptionally fine condition.
The two penny blue was issued at the same time as the penny black. The two penny blue is, however, 10 times rarer than the penny black.
The Stanley Gibbons catalogue value for a single 2d blue from plate 1 cover with the red Maltese Cross cancellation is £3,000.
