GOLD. 1813 George III, Military Guinea. In 1813 a one- year type guinea was struck to pay Wellington's army on the Pyrenees, as the local populace would accept only gold for purchases.
The issue was 80,000 pieces, and the gold for the issue was imported from India in the form of gold mohur and pagodacoins.
The coin has become known as the 'military guinea' and was the last guinea to be struck. This particular coin isin EF condition and still possesses some of its original mint lustre.
