China 1947-48 Sun Yat-sen (11th issue) $2,000 red-orange printing variety, SG959var.
A fine unused lower marginal vertical pair, with printing variety imperforate between stamp and margin. Most appealing quality other than slight tone in margin.
A scarce printing variety, quite remarkably still available at a low price.
Chan catalogue No: 1032c.
Because of the continuing rise in inflation at the time, demand for stamps of high denominations was growing increasingly. The Shanghai Dah Tung Book Co. was assigned to print new stamps with the Dr. Sun's portrait nearer to the left. These stamps were engraved but ungummed.
