Star Wars Jawa toy auctioning for $53,000 on eBay

The rare vinyl-cape Jawa toy is the holy grail for Star Wars collectors

What is believed to be the only graded example of the Star Wars Palitoy vinyl-cape Jawa toy from 1978 is currently selling on eBay.

vinyl cape Jawa toy Star Wars After taking a gamble, the vendor now owns the only graded vinyl-cape Jawa in existence

The toy has been posted by a dedicated Star Wars fan, who hopes to raise 35,000 ($52,780)from the sale. Such is its rarity, there is much debate among Star Wars collectors about whether a vinyl-cape Jawa even exists.

However, the current owner took a risk, buying the figure before he knew that it was the real deal. The gamble paid off when he then sent it to the Action Figure Authority (AFA), who certified this AFA 75 and the only graded example in existence.

As the vendor states in his description, the price reflects not only the rarity of the figure, but also its significance to Star War collecting, with the debate being a hot topic among enthusiasts for years.

The toy originates from 1978, first coming to the market equipped with a vinyl cape. However, after just a few months, the manufacturers decided to replace the cape with a cloth one.

On May 21, Luke Skywalker's trousers from the original Star Wars film were due to sell at Nate D Sanders, but failed to meet their reserve price. A more successful auction was seen in December 2012, when an X-wing filming miniature sold for $225,000.

An original piece of Krayt Dragon bone is up for grabs at PFC Auctionsright now.

I have one that I'm planning to sell. It's an open box and without the gun. I can post pics.
