Planet Of The Apes Collectibles And Memorabilia are items relating to the media franchise Planet of the Apes.

Brief history/biography

The Planet of the Apes franchise consists of seven films, two television series and a series of comic books as well.

The first Planet of the Apes film was released in 1968 and it was based on a 1963 novel titled La Planète des singes. The second Planet of the Apes film (Beneath the Planet of the Apes) was released in 1970, followed by Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971), Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1972), and Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973).

A remake of the early films was released in 2001 (and also called Planet of the Apes) followed by Rise of the Planet of the Apes in 2011.

A television series of the franchise aired in 1974 (Planet of the Apes) followed by Return to the Planet of the Apes in 1975.

Guernsey's in New York sold Woodrow Parfrey's tunic from Planet of the Apes (1968) for $9,500 in March of 2008,

  • Guernsey's in New York sold Charlton Heston's loincloth from Planet of the Apes (1968) for $14,000 in March of 2008.

  • Profiles in History in Calabasas Hills, California sold a chimpanzee mask from Planet of the Apes (2001) for $7,500 in December of 2008.

Posters

  • Christie's in Los Angeles sold a Planet of the Apes festival poster which states "20th Century Fox Wants You to Go Ape!" (circa 1974) for $2,350 in November of 2000.

  • Christie's in London sold a rare set of four U.S. Planet of the Apes door posters from Planet of the Apes (1968) including three featuring chimpanzees on the front and one featuring Charles Heston for £2,500 in March of 2008.

Guide for collectors

Memorabilia that was once owned or used by actors in Planet of the Apes (1968) and Beneath Planet of the Apes (1970) is considered to be more rare and valuable than memorabilia that was once owned or used during any of the later films.

Restoration of an original Planet of the Apes costume is not recommended.
