The auction boasts a set of Jaeger LeCoultre watches, but the Patek Phillippes are excellent too

As we've reported, an upcoming Hong Kong auction of fine watches will be led by a spectacular set of Jaeger LeCoultre watches known as Hybris Mecanique which are being sold separately for the first time.

However, Patek Philippe collectors would be livid if they missed some of the choice offerings in this auction too.

Whilst we've recently covered the company's impressive antique music box, this is surely what they do best.

First up is a Patek Philippe minute-repeater ref. 3939 in pink gold. It only arrived on the markets in 2010 and is now being offered at auction for the first time.

The wristwatch boasts a one minute tourbillon regulator and is expected to sell for HK$2,750,000 - 3,200,000.

Then there is the 1946 Patek Philippe ref. 1518.Ref 1518 are real pieces of history, as in 1941 they were the first production perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatches in the world, and a crucial building block for Patek's global reputation.

Only 281 had been manufactured by 1952 (including all the minor variations) when production. This example in 18K yellow gold boasts a perpetual calendar, square button chronograph register, moon phases and tachometer.

It is estimated at HK$1,900,000 - 2,500,000.

Finally, there is the Patek Philippe ref. 5131J World Time. Placed on the market in 2008, the watch, which presents a beautiful cloisonne dial, was promoted at least as much for its aesthetics as for its complications.

The dial of every single watch is hand made by a professional enameller. Mixing enamel is a highly technical and artistic skill, and the results are astounding.

Its technical achievements are not to be scoffed at however, as it is a self-winding, water-resistant wristwatch with world-time system. Set in 18K yellow gold, it is estimated at HK$880,000 - 1,200,000.
