The Parker Bros Knight Rider board game is a vintage game based on the 1980s television series Knight Rider.

Background

Knight Rider follows the exploits of Michael Knight, played by David Hasselhoff, who acts as a field agent for a justice agency known as FLAG aided by a technically advanced car with artificial intelligence.

The series first appeared on U.S television in September 1982, and ran for four seasons until 1986. The popularity of the show led to a wide range of merchandise including toys, model cars based on KITT, lunchboxes and video games.

The Knight Rider board game was published by Parker Brothers in 1982, not long after the show’s debut.

The Parker Brothers Knight Rider board game

The game is for 2 – 4 players, and features a game board with a winding road that can be travelled along continuously. One player initially takes the role as Michael Knight and KITT, and must travel along the road clearing up ‘trouble spots’ and earning bonus money.

Other players also move around in their cars, with moves based on the throw of a dice, and can attempt to steal KITT using a card-based ‘Chicken Challenge’ game. If the challenger wins, they can then take control of KITT and continue to clear up trouble spots until challenged by another opponent.

The winner of the game is the player to clear up the most trouble spots, earning the most money in the process.

The components of the game are:

  • Gameboard
  • Special numbered die
  • 5 car tokens
  • 10 challenge cards
  • 16 trouble spots each with a bonus on the back

How much is a Parker Bros Knight Rider board game worth?

Although Knight Rider is fondly remembered today, vintage merchandise is fairly popular but not particularly valuable.

A copy of the 1982 board game in excellent condition, with its components intact, can be found on auction sites such as eBay for between $10 - $15.
