Oliver Cromwell signature
An Oliver Cromwell signature is a rare piece of historic memorabilia featuring the autograph of Oliver Cromwell.
Oliver Cromwell was a military and political leader who became Lord Protector of England, Scotland, and Ireland after overthrowing the English Monarchy and establishing a republic in 1649.
Cromwell’s leadership style and often brutal military campaigns (particularly in Ireland) have led him to become a divisive figure in British history, considered in equal parts a hero and a cruel dictator.
After Cromwell’s death in 1658, Charles II returned from exile to take his place on the throne and the Republican Commonwealth was dissolved. Crowmell’s body was later exhumed by Royalists and beheaded on the 12th anniversary of the execution of Charles I.
The item is a piece of paper measuring 2” by 4”, clipped from an unknown official document and bearing Cromwell’s signature.
The item also bears a number of worlds relating to marriage, which are written beneath Cromwell’s signature in an unknown hand.
The signature is sold along with two reproduction engravings of Cromwell.
This rare and historic autograph is available to purchase from the company Paul Fraser Collectibles, who specialise in unique and high-end memorabilia.
It is currently priced at £5,500.
