Dr Octopus, known to fans as ‘Dock Ock’, is a leading villain in the Marvel Universe and was first introduced in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man #3’ in July 1963. Real name Otto Octavius, he was a respected nuclear physicist until an accident left him with metal tentacles fused to his body and a mutated brain that allowed him to control them telepathically even after they were removed.
Dr Octopus is one of the most iconic and long-running adversaries of Spider-Man, and has been voted one of the greatest comic book villains of all, time.
Figure design and appearance
The figure measures approximately 7” tall, and features five points of articulation at the neck, shoulders and hips. Like all the figures in the Marvel Select range it is less articulated than the smaller Marvel Legends line, but the sculpt quality and large display accessories make them tailored specifically for collectors.
The character wears a dark green leather coat with black boots, and is given a more modern appearance than many of the earlier comic book incarnations. The figure has dark, slicked-back hair and blank red eyes rather than the traditional glasses or goggles, as he appears in the comic book series ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’.
The figure comes complete with four long silver robotic tentacles which attach to its back and can be bent and posed in any number of ways due to the strong wires inside them.
It also comes complete with an additional Spider-Man figure that can be posed with Dr Octopus. The Spider-Man figure is made from hollow plastic, meaning it is light enough to be supported and held by the robotic tentacles, and has 16 points of articulation.
