JFK and Jacqueline wedding negatives achieve $34,000 in online sale

A set of unpublished negatives from JFK and Jacqueline's wedding sold on October 15

A set of 13 original black and white negatives from the wedding of John and Jacqueline Kennedy sold for $34,073 at RR Auction on October 15.

The wedding took place on September 12, 1953 at St Mary's Church in Newport, Rhode Island. In total 700 people attended the event, with a further 500 invited to the reception.

In the photographs the Kennedys can be seen posing together with family and friends and cutting the cake.

RR Auction comment that they "were originally taken by a freelance photographer who had been asked to be a 'back-up' photographer for the wedding, and were discovered in his darkroom after his passing."

A note of provenance from the photographer's son reads: "To my knowledge there have never been any prints made of these negatives the entire time they were in his possession."

The assassination of JFK still has the power to shock, no matter how many times the media replay and dissect it. The murder of a popular president at a time of huge political upheaval sent shockwaves across America and around the world.

This in turn ensures a booming market. Most recently, an archive of letters from Kennedy to the family of a crewmember killed aboard his ship during the second world war sold for $200,000 at RR Auction.

We have a strong selection of JFK memorabilia, including this incredible original poster from his 1960 presidential campaign.
