Aston Martin tops Silverstone auction, selling for $359,000

An elegant 007 style Aston Martin DB4 led Silverstone's classic car auction

Arare, jet black 1960 Aston Martin DB4 Series IIhas top performed atSilverstone's November 17classic car auction in the UK.

41 out of the 67 lots available sold, with the elegant, six cylinder Aston Martin DB4 heading the auction at 224,000 ($359,000) - 24,000 ($38,464) above its high estimate of 200,000 ($320,504).

The classic car brand, iconically associated with the James Bond film franchise, only produced 351 DB4 Series IIs. Testament to its rarity, in 1960 a new modelDB4 would have cost 3,974 ($6,368) - then, the same price as a substantial house in Surrey, UK.

Aston Martin sold 41 of 67 lots were sold at the Silverstone auction

Initially, the vehicle was delivered in 1960 to a Mr Wilson McConnell - a business manbased in Montreal, Canada. His personal specifications included chrome wire wheels, heated rear windows and a set of fitted suitcases.

Two restored VW Beetles also sold well: the first, a 1952 split-window model, achieved 23,520 ($37,689) while a 1954 oval model sold for 16,800 ($26,931) - only slightly less than a classic Fiat 500 L, previously owned by current British prime minister, David Cameron.
