Acker's first New York fine wine auction of 2011 achieves a delicious $4.75m

The company's February internet auction also achieved more than $1m thanks to Lafite and Petrus

Acker, Merall and Condit's first New York live auction of 2011 played to a packed house at Marea and was one of the strongest sales of fine wines New York has hosted in recent memory.

Over $4.75m and 98% was sold at their live auction Saturday, and on Sunday, their February internet auction chapter closed with over $1m on the gross as well, making for a weekend total of $5.75m and a very strong start to 2011 here in America.

"The internet auctions are an important part of our business, and we are committed to growing them," commented Acker Merrall's CEO John Kapon.

"We look forward to re-launching our new website in late 2012 and bettering our service to our existing and growing online clients. As for Saturday, I couldn't have asked for a better start to the year stateside.

"The great cellars of Burgundy on offer even drew over some of the great Burgundian winemakers here for La Paulee, and the auction showed that Burgundy lovers are still the most passionate and relentless when it comes to getting their favourite producers."

If Burgundy lovers are the most passionate, Bordeaux lovers proved once again that they have the deepest pockets, accounting for six out of the sale's top ten lots, including the sale's top lot, a case of 1982 Lafite Rothschild at $61,000.

All of the top lots for Bordeaux were from either Lafite or Petrus, while DRC had three of the top ten lots, and Krug two out of the top eleven.
