Northwood Grape and Cable carnival glass humidors are collectible items of carnival glass, produced in the US by the Northwood Glass Company during the first quarter of the 20th century.

 

Antique or vintage?

Glassware produced more than 100 years ago is classed as “antique” according to the 1930 Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act’s definition.

“Vintage” refers to pieces manufactured within the last 100 years and can include items made as recently as the 1980s.

Grape and Cable pattern

Northwood Grape and Cable carnival glass formed around 6% of Northwood’s output and was fashioned into a range of designs.

The tobacco humidors featured a sponge holder on the inside of the jar’s lid. They were produced in normal and stippled versions.

Humidors were available in a range of colours:

  • Amethyst and purple
  • Aqua opal
  • Blue
  • Marigold
  • Renninger blue

Northwood Grape and Cable carnival glass humidors can sell for between $250 and $1,200 depending on colour and condition.

A Renninger blue humidor sold for $1,200 in 2005.
