Vintage Westclox Big Ben and Baby Ben alarm clocks are models of collectible alarm clock produced by Westclox.

Big Ben clocks are larger than their Baby Ben brothers.

They have taken a variety of forms through the years and some styles are still being made today.

History of Big Ben and Baby Ben alarm clocks

Big Ben alarm clocks were first produced in 1909.

The original Big Ben was a silver clock. Production ran until 1918, although a very similar variant, which featured three less screws on the front of the clock, was made from 1918 and 1935.

The original Big Ben was designed by George Kern and paved the way for a variety of different styles.

The Big Ben was the first alarm clock advertised on a national scale, when it appeared in the Saturday Evening Post in 1910.

The first Baby Ben appeared in 1910. Featuring a two inch movement, production ran until 1912, when it was replaced by a newer version which was manufactured until 1930.

There are 10 key styles of Big Ben and Baby Ben alarm clock, although unusual variants also appear.

Value

Big Bens and Baby Bens of all eras are popular with clock enthusiasts but due to their considerable numbers are not particularly valuable.
