Mercedes 190 SL Clubsport at Bonhams
Though arguably not as glamourous or desirable as its bigger sibling, the 300SL, the 190 SL was by all accounts a spectacular little sports car in its own right. Though it shared many of the same design cues with the 300SL, the 190 was in fact based on the 180 saloon.
The aftermarket Clubsport package gives a bit more racing pedigree to the otherwise standard 190 SL, with its racing screen, removed bumpers and general weight saving measures you can tell this is a slightly more honed weapon of choice for the gentleman driver. It is strongly suspected that this very car won the 2 litre GT class as the 1956 Casablanca Grand Prix (because let's face it: if you owned this car in 1956 that's exactly the kind of lifestyle that you'd have) with it seeming entirely probable, although apparently hard to prove.
The 190 SL Clubsport is expected to sell for €250,000-300,000 at Bonhams' Mercedes-Benz Sale, which seems like remarkable value for such a rare version of this car, especially when compared to the price of a 300SL
