The Grolier Club is to celebrate the world of the 'blook' in a new exhibition
Every rare book enthusiast's favorite Manhattan haunt the 'Grolier Club' is to display the 'blook' collection of Mindell Dubansky. Yes, blooks.
In case you arent familiar with the word, a 'blook' is an abbreviation of “book-look” which is basically something which looks like a book, but isnt a book-and there's a surprisingly large amount of them out there.
Dubansky's 130 piece collection includes a variety of quirky items including antique book shaped safes to store money or conceal tiny flasks of alcohol, a vintage table lighter disguised as 'The Book of Smoking Knowledge' and book shaped lady's compact mirrors.
Dubansky has only loaned a small portion of her some 600 piece blook collection to the Club, which will be on display until March.
