Will China ever be a wine superpower? Pretty interesting, but typically inconclusive article from the BBC.

They have the money, the time, the space, and the backing of Western corporations eager to move over to their cheaper labour market. They're even building Loire Valley-esq1ue chateaus for their vineyards to look just right. You can bet your last case that China will eventually be a wine super power.

I'm not so sure. Let's face it, the world we collect in is mainly based on prestige, reputation and generally bragging rights. China's vineyards have none of these and I have yet to taste a good wine from the country. A buying superpower, but a selling...they are years off!

I think Plonker may be right about the selling power. It will take time, even if they graft Old World vines. It's a good question though.
