Oh dear. Berry Bros & Rudd, the Queen’s wine and spirit merchant since the reign of King George III, has declared its first loss in recent memory. Berry Bros suffered a £7.3m pre-tax loss for the 12 months to March 31, from a £1.4m profit in the previous year. The 315-year-old family-owned firm has invested in an overhaul strategy of an estimated £25 million.

Staggering. As wine sales at auction continue to break records and the influx of Chinese buyers transforms the market, one of the world's oldest wine merchants loses money. I guess buyers ARE turning to auctions instead.
