'Whisky better investment than Bordeaux', says expert
Rare whiskies offer better investment potential than Bordeaux wine.
So says whisky expert James Espey in an interview with Hong Kong's South China Morning Post.
72-year-old Espey, who has spent his life in the drinks industry, told the paper that 25% annual returns from rare whisky are possible, far beyond that achieved by Bordeaux in recent times.
"People are looking for something genuine and exclusive," he said of today's whisky buyers. "They don't want big brands. They want craft."
Espey founded The Last Drop in 2008. It offers customers unique blends of limited edition vintage malt whiskies – often from now silent distilleries.
The value of a 1960 whisky Espey created has increased from £1,000 at its launch in 2008 to £3,500 today, he says.
