China whisky fund invests in Scotch
A new £3m whisky fund will enable Chinese buyers to invest in Scotch.
The Single Malt Club China (SMCC) will offer Chinese speculators the chance to invest in rare drams, including limited editions and single casks.
The club was established in 2005 to help Chinese whisky buyers taste and own the world's finest tipples. This is the first time the club has ventured into whisky investment.
Scottish first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, announcing the launch of the fund, commented: "The Single Malt Club China has worked hard to promote Scotch whisky for a decade and now has nearly 5,000 members throughout China.
"It also works with 31 of our distilleries, so the support for our industry is clear, and this fund will allow Chinese whisky connoisseurs to invest in some of Scotland's finest and rarest drams."
China is the world's 26th largest consumer of Scotch whisky, according to the Scotch Whisky Association.
