Armenian Ararat brandy sells for $121,500
A 70 year old bottle of Armenian Ararat brandy has sold for £80,000 ($121,511) at Sotheby’s London.
The lot led a sale of items related to Winston Churchill, hosted by Prince Albert II of Monaco. It was donated by the Armenian ambassador to the UK.
The brandy was Churchill’s personal favourites. He first got a taste for it after Stalin gave him some at the Yalta conference in 1945.
In 2013, Vladimir Putin echoed the gesture by presenting David Cameron with a bottle of Ararat in a meeting at Sochi.
Proceeds from the auction will go to Prince Albert’s effort to combat climate change.
