Vintage Orphan Annie New Haven watches are collectible watches made by New Haven Clock & Watch Co in the late 1940s, depicting the Annie character from the Little Orphan Annie comic strip.

According to the 1930 Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act’s definition, “vintage” refers to pieces manufactured within the last 100 years and can include items made as recently as the 1980s.

Little Orphan Annie

Little Orphan Annie started life as a comic strip in the New York Daily News in 1924.

Created by Harold Gray, it went on to appear in several newspapers and inspire a radio show as well as film adaptations in 1932 and 1938 and a Broadway musical. The comic strip ceased in 2010.

New Haven Clock & Watch Co

The watches were manufactured by the Connecticut, US-based New Haven Clock & Watch Co.

Vintage Orphan Annie New Haven watches

Vintage Orphan Annie New Haven watches were produced in 1948 and featured Harold Gray's depiction of Annie.

It came in a box featuring Harold Gray artwork of Annie and her dog Sandy. Gray was famous for depicting Annie with featureless eyes.

The watch, which was designed for girls, had a dark brown leather strap.

How much are vintage Orphan Annie New Haven watches worth?

A good condition example with its original box sold for $336 at a Hake’s auction in March 2006.
