Values shown are reflective of a very good/excellent condition example – unless otherwise stated.

Vacheron & Constantin

Prodigious watchmaker Jean Marc-Vacheron founded Vacheron & Constantin in Geneva in 1755. The company is among the world's oldest watch manufacturers.

In 1770, it developed the first complication (a milestone in the history of watch making) and followed this up with the engine turned dial in 1779.

Over the course of its long and distinguished history, it has produced some of the world's most celebrated timepieces.

Today the company produces around 20,000 watches per year.

Ref 4240

The Ref 4240 first entered production in 1942 and was offered with a variety of case and dial combinations.

The classic design has remained enduringly popular with collectors. The price is also substantially lower than classic watches from other makers of similar pedigree - Patek Philippe for example.
