Tag Heuer was founded in 1860, when Edouard Heuer opened a workshop in Saint Imier, Switzerland.
In 1887, the maker came up with the oscillating pinion - which remains a key element of the modern chronograph.
Further innovations followed throughout the early 1900s culminating a world first, the development of a stopwatch accurate to 1/100th of a second in 1916.
Since that time it has expanded into a major corporation, producing merchandise capitalising on its sterling reputation and appearing on the wrists of everyone from Leonard DiCaprio to Tiger Woods.
Tag Heuer Carrera
The Tag Heuer Carrera was issued in 1963. Named after the great road race, the Carrera Panamericana, it features a broad face designed to be read easily at speed.
While it lacks the iconic status of the Monaco, it remains a hugely popular watch.
