Phillips to offer world class Heur watches from the Jack Heur Era
A world-class collection of vintage Heuer watches will be offered at Phillips in Geneva later this year.
The auction house has revealed details of a dedicated sale, featuring rare and important chronographs from the esteemed collection of Heur experts Richard Crosthwaite and Paul Gavin.
"It is my absolute pleasure to offer what is, without any doubt, the finest collection of vintage Heuer watches to come to the market in recent years," said Phillips' Senior Consultant Aurel Bacs.
"Comprised of some of the rarest and best preserved examples of Heuer’s iconic models, Richard Crosthwaite and Paul Gavin’s superb taste, collecting discipline, and masterful curation are reflected brilliantly in the collection we are thrilled to present this fall."
The auction will offer 49 collectible Heuer chronographs produced between 1962 and 1982, a period known to collectors as the 'Jack Heuer Era'.
It was during this period that many of the company's most iconic designs were produced, including the Monaco, Autavia, Carrera, Monza, Montreal, Daytona and Silverstone.
Sale highlights will include a complete, Ref: 1133B ‘Steve McQueen’ Monaco "no lume dial" watch; a complete, 'new old stock' Monaco 'Dark Lord' reference 74033N, made in 1975; a rare 'first execution' Autavia, reference 2446 chronograph made in 1962; and an extremely rare Carrera reference 2447S 'Yachting' with a unique, copper effect tropical dial.
The special auction will also include the very first example of a commemorative, limited edition Autavia model, created to commemorate both the 55th anniversary of the Autavia’s launch, and the 85th birthday of Jack Heuer himself.
Numbered 1 of 1932, the exclusive watch will be sold to benefit the SAVE THE CHILDREN charity.
"It is truly an honour to be entrusted with this stunning collection of Heuer chronographs from such an evocative era of the brand's history," commented Paul Maudsley, International Specialist-Director at Phillips.
"Having known both collectors for many years and witnessed their attention and eye for detail in sourcing only the finest and rarest examples of legendary Heuers, this special auction will be a fitting tribute to their passion and dedication for collecting, whilst also bringing joy to the many new custodians of their special watches.”
'The Crosthwaite & Gavin Collection: Exceptional Heuer Chronographs From The Jack Heuer Era' takes place at Phillips in Geneva on November 11, 2017.
