Schiaparelli designs exhibit in Manchester for first time
Magnificent designs by Elsa Schiaparelli, one of the most prominent figures in fashion between the two World Wars, is exhibiting in Manchester for the first time.
The year long exhibition will display a selection of rare creations by the Italian fashion legend until next October, offering Mancunians a glimpse into what high fashion in the early 20th century was like.
Schiaparelli was a great rival of Coco Chanel and in her time counted actress Mae West and heiress Daisy Fellows among her clients.
However, the success of Schiaparelli was short lived after she refused to adapt to the changes in fashion after the Second World War leading to the closure of her fashion house in 1954.
