These are the rare hockey cards which the mullet sporting Wayne Gretzky wanted destroyed-but it seems quite a few of them managed to avoid their fate.

Despite the hockey legends best efforts some of the cards have survived for us to see today in all their 80's glory, thanks to quick thinking collectors like Don Clarke. At the time the cards were printed Don worked in  Red Rooster convenience stores when they made sets of Oilers cards for customers. After some 7,000 of the Gretzky cards were produced he got a phone call from Oilers who had heard that Gretzky was unhappy with the cards and wanted new ones printed-after the hockey legend had got himself a haircut.

After the order came in that the cards be destroyed Clarke and a few others kept some for themselves and today they are highly sought after collectors items.
