The Mickey Mantle 1952 Topps PSA 9 is the most-valuable post-war baseball trading card, manufactured by Topps.

It sold for $282,000 in 2008.

Description

The colour-photo card depicts Mantle in his New York Yankees uniform, clutching a yellow bat. An example of his autograph is also provided.

Although this 1952 card is widely known as Mantle’s rookie card, Bowman actually produced the first Mantle card in 1951.

The player

Mantle played his entire 18-year career with the New York Yankees from 1951 to 1968.

The switch-hitter won seven World Series and was arguably the most popular player of the 1950s, which accounts for the high-price of this card.

Sale

The card sold for $282,000 on eBay in 2008, making it the most-valuable post-war baseball card ever sold.

PSA 10 versions

A PSA Gem Mint 10 version of the card, known as the Roehrig-Garcia specimen, sold for $275,000 in 2001.

It is one of three Gem Mint 10 graded specimens of this card. The Fogel-Murphy fetched $121,000 in 1996, while the Wormser-Candiotti made $104,500 in 1998.
