Vintage My Little Pony Toys
Vintage My Little Pony Toys are collectible toy ponies produced by the manufacturer Hasbro.
History & Description
The My Little Ponybrand is primarily marketed to young girls and individual ponies can be identified due to unique symbols, colours and manes that the ponies possess.
The original My Pretty Pony toys were introduced in 1981 which led to the subsequent launch of the My Little Pony brand in 1983. The toys became extremely popular on both sides of the Atlantic in the 1980s and inspired three animated television series, an animated feature length film and numerous animated specials.
In addition to the toy ponies, My Little Pony has spawned a variety of products, such as scooters, hairbrushes, numerous girls’ accessories, sewing machines and board games.
Guide for collectors
Vintage My Little Pony toys are very rarely sold through national auctioneers and collectors are more likely to purchase vintage items from internet bidding sites, such as eBay.
Collectors should look out for My Little Pony toys that are still in their original boxes or casings, as these are typically in the best condition and therefore are the most valuable to collectors.
There is a large community of My Little Pony collectors and as a result there are numerous websites that are a great source of information for prospective or existing collectors. A few good examples include; Kim Sites, My Little Pony Collecting and Strawberry Reef.
