Subbuteo pay tribute to little boy by granting 50 year old Christmas wish
The makers of Subbuteo have made a little boys 50 year old Christmas wish come true-by gifting his family a custom tribute version of the game.
Nine year old Paul Trench wrote the letter to Santa in 1966 but sadly would not live to see if any of his Christmas wishes came true-as he passed away from a viral blood infection two months later.
The letter was discovered by his older brother Ray written inside an exercise book and the story quickly grabbed the attention of both the internet and the Spanish manufacturers of Subbuteo, who paid tribute to Paul by making a custom 1966 'England vs Argentina' edition of the game in keeping with his wishes.
Jose Guerrero, brand manager at Subbuteo has said that the note 'melted their hearts' and even donated the Argentinian players from his own collection after the team were unable to locate an original set elsewhere.
There are only two editions of the game, which features Paul's letter and picture on the reverse, in existence. One was kept by the company and the other was given to Paul's brother Ray Trench who hopes to one day pass it on to his grandson Sam.
