Morphy Auctions offers vintage tops in time for the holidays
Morphy Auctions is set to present a sale of vintage toys and collectibles, just in time for Christmas.
The two-day auction on December 18-20 will feature more than 2,000 lots, from robots and space toys to dolls and teddy bears, model trains, clockworks vehicles, mechanical banks and even antique advertising.
Leading the line-up will be a number of antique French dolls, including a 'Bebe Modele' estimated at $15,000-25,000, and a spectacular Jumeau Triste estimated at $10,000-15,000. There will also be antique teddy bears, such as a rare early 1900's white center-seamed Steiff bear valued at up to $5,000, and a treasure trove of vintage holiday ephemera including candy containers and decorations.
"My team and I are thrilled to offer our customers such a robust and exciting assortment of quality dolls, plush, and candy containers, among other category and seasonal favourites," said Jay Lowe, Head of Morphy's Doll Division. "The timing of this sale is just perfect to make every collector's holiday wishes come true!"
Collectors will also be able to bid on a selection of highly rare tin litho toys, such as a 1920's era orange and black Marklin Torpedo clockwork automobile, the world's only known example estimated at $12,000-16,000.
Space toys will be well-represented, with notable lots including a highly sought-after Gang of 5 red machine man robot estimated at $15,000-25,000; a near-mint mechanical Deep Sea diver robot estimated at $6,000-9,000; and a battery operated Japanese Tin Litho Robby Space Patrol estimated at $6,000-9,000.
"I am particular pleased about this sale's outstanding selection of space toys and robots," said Tommy Sage, Jr., Head of Morphy's Toy and Train Division. "These items are of growing interest among collectors from all over the world, and it is great to see Morphy's again taking a leadership position in this category - among many others!"
Further highlights across the highly varied catalogue include vintage Disney character toys, cast-iron door stops, rare antique glass marbles and a selection of collectible breweriana and tobacciana.
