Milton Bradley Real Ghostbusters board game
The Milton Bradley Real Ghostbusters board game is a vintage children’s game based on the animated televisions series ‘The Real Ghostbusters’.
The board game is based on the children’s cartoon series ‘The Real Ghostbusters’, which is in turn based on the successful 1984 live-action feature film ‘Ghostbusters’. The animated series ran from 1986 until 1991, and produced a wide range of merchandise such as toys and action figures produced by Kenner and a series of comic books.
The board game was released in 1986 to coincide with the release of the cartoon, with a different ‘Real Ghostbusters’ game aimed at younger players released in 1989.
The Milton Bradley ‘The Real Ghostbusters’ board game
The game is a reworked version of the 1970s board game Which Witch, including identical rules, game play and an adapted board.
The game features a three-dimensional board split into four sections, (the Ghostbusters H.Q, an antiques store, a New York street and a museum) and can be played by 2 – 4 players. It features roll-and-move game play, as players move around the board capturing ghosts whilst avoiding traps.
In an identical manner to Which Witch, a metal ball bearing can be dropped onto the board through a central plastic stand (resembling a chimney/stairway) and can pop out in four different places. Players moved or knocked down by the ball bearing face penalties and may have to move back to the start.
How much is a Milton Bradley Real Ghostbusters board game worth?
The game is popular with collectors due to its detailed 3-dimensional board and artwork, along with its link to the Ghostbusters franchise.
Complete copies of the game with their playing pieces and rules intact can sell for between $15 – $40 on auction sites such as eBay, depending on their condition.
