FAO Schwarz to close its doors for good
Americas oldest toy store FAO Schwarz is to close its doors for good-after a 145 year existance in Manhattan.
The world famous store was home to the oversized floor piano on which Tom Hanks and Robert Loggia played 'Chopsticks' and 'Heart and Soul' in the 1988 film Big-an attraction which still recieved hundreds of visitors every day.
The toy store has been owned by Toys R Us since 2009, but the toy chain have decided to pull the plug on the New York institution because of the '''continuing rising costs of operating a retail location on Fifth Avenue in New York City.”
The toy store was a treasure trove for generation of children and the news of its closure is likely to be sorely lamented by many.
