Brief history/biography

The Oakland Athletics are a professional American baseball team based in Oakland, California.

The team was originally called the Philadelphia Athletics from 1901 to until 1954, but after moving to Kansas City in 1955 the team then changed their name to the Kansas City Athletics from 1955 to 1967. The team moved to Oakland, California in 1968 and were known as the Oakland Athletics until 1969, but changed their name to the Oakland A's from 1970 to 1981.

Sotheby's in New York sold Reggie Jackson's Oakland Athletics jersey for $7,500 in April of 2008.

EAC Gallery in Mineola, New York sold Rickey Henderson's game-used Oakland Athletics jersey for $320 in March of 2006.

Alexander Autographs, Inc. in Cos Cob, Connecticut sold Mark McGwire's Rawlings Adirondack baseball bat (model 256B) which he used during the 1993 season with the Oakland Athletics for $700 in September of 2004.

Robert Edward Auctions in Watchung, New Jersey sold Mark McGwire's game-used and signed Oakland Athletics baseball cap for $500 in May of 2004.

Championship rings

Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas sold a 1988 Oakland Athletics A.L. Championship ring for $2,600 in October of 2008.

The Written Word Autographs in Tamworth, New Hampshire sold a copy of Sports Illustrated (circa September 14th, 1998) with Mark McGwire hitting a home run whilst playing for the Oakland Athletics to commemorate his 62nd home run for $150 in April of 2007.
