Michael Jordan memorabilia leads Goldin Auctions sale

An upcoming sale at Goldin Auctions will include two major pieces of Michael Jordan memorabilia.

First is a signed jersey worn by Jordan during his final regular-season game with the Chicago Bulls in 1998. Having led the team to five NBA championsips, Jordan bowed out of basketball for the second time following his second spell in Chicago.

Jordan played his final game for the team on April 18 against arch-rivals the New York Knicks, scoring 44 points to claim his 10th and final NBA scoring champion title over Shaquille O’Neal. The Bulls then went on to claim the NBA championship, with Jordan winning his sixth title and the NBA MVP award, before retiring in January 1999.

The game-worn jersey is only the second photo-matched jersey from Jordan's final season with the Bulls ever offered at auction, with the first selling at Goldin Auctions earlier in 2015 for over $100,000.

The second Jordan lot on offer is pair of Nike Air Jordan XI sneakers worn during game three of the 1996 NBA Finals. Jordan scored 36 points during the game, as the Bulls beat the Seattle Supersonics 108-86 to take a 3-0 lead in the series. They eventually won 4-2, marking the first NBA title of a famous 'three peat'.

Following the game Jordan gifted the sneakers to Seattle Super Sonics guard Eric Snow, and signed them years later under the supervision of Upper Deck.

“Michael Jordan’s growing influence in the world of sports collecting is catching up to his legendary status on the basketball court as collectors who grew up wanting to be like Mike build their collections,” said Ken Goldin, founder of Goldin Auctions. “These two lots mark significant achievements in Michael’s career and are must-have items in telling the story of Michael Jordan.”

Bidding in the Goldin Auctions October Legends & Americana Auction ends on November 14.
