David Beckham collectibles and memorabilia
David Beckham, OBE (born David Robert Joseph Beckham in Leytonstone, England, on 2 May, 1975) is a footballer who plays for Major League Soccer team Los Angeles Galaxy, in America, as well as for the English national side. He started his professional playing career at Manchester United in 1992. Since then, he has played club football for Preston North End (loan), Real Madrid, AC Milan (loan) and LA Galaxy.
Beckham also holds the record for most appearances by an outfield player for the England team.
Beckham’s fame spreads beyond just football, and he has been described as “a walking trademark and a member of that elite band whose name is as instantly recognisable as that of multinational companies like Coca-Cola and IBM.”
As one of the world’s most famous footballers and well-known faces, David Beckham looks set to leave a legacy similar to that of other football stars like George Best and Pele.
This means memorabilia connected to Beckham is likely to be highly collectible in the future, with some items having already been sold in past auctions.
Letters written by Beckham in 1991, when he was 16-years-old and had just signed for Manchester United, were sold at auction in March 2006. The two letters, and a drawing, sold for £1,508 at Bonhams in Chester.
In the letters, Beckham describes being paid his first wage packet of £120.
