Brief history/biography

The Boston Celtics are a professional American basketball team based in Boston, Massachusetts, and have won more championships than any other basketball team in the NBA.

The team was founded in 1946, and their team colors are black, green, gold and white.

The Boston Celtics have won 17 NBA championships (in 1957, 1959, six years in a row from 1960-1966, 1968, 1969, 1974, 1976, 1981, 1984, 1986 and 2008), as well as 21 Conference titles and 20 Division titles.

Grey Flannel Auctions, Inc. in Westhampton, New York sold Bob Cousy's used Boston Celtics road fleece (circa early 1960s) for $12,000 in September of 2007, Frank Ramsey's Boston Celtics road fleece (circa early 1960s) for $5,500 in September of 2008, Bill Sharman's Boston Celtics home fleece (circa 1960) for $5,000 in September of 2008, Larry Bird's autographed 1997 Boston Celtics jacket for $13,000 in September of 2007, and Larry Bird's used Boston Celtics shooting shirt for $5,500 in September of 2009.

Trophies

Sotheby's in New York sold the Boston Celtics' 1958-1959 NBA World Championship trophy for $54,000 in June of 2005.

Guide for collectors

Memorabilia that was once owned or used by Larry Siegfried (who played for the team from 1963 to 1970), Bill Russell (1966 to 1969), John Havlicek, (1962 to 1978), Bob Cousy (1950 to 1963), Sam Jones (1957 to 1969), or any other Boston Celtics player who has been inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame is considered to be valuable among sports memorabilia collectors. Memorabilia that was once signed or worn by the player also drives up the value of the item as well.
