Babe Ruth (1895-1948, born George Herman Ruth, Jr in Baltimore, Maryland, United States) is the most celebrated player in American baseball history.
Famed for his home runs and a favourite among fans, Ruth was a contemporary of other New York Yankee stars including Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle.
He was voted Sporting News' Greatest Player of All Time in the AP news agency’s Athlete of the Century.

A Babe Ruth signed sepia Hall of Fame postcard was auctioned for $44,062 in March 2010 in a two-day, three-session multi-estate sale held by Philip Weiss Auctions of Oceanside, New York.It was a world record price for a signed Hall of Fame postcard for any player.
New York Yankees cap
In New York, Hunt Auctions sold a 1920s sweat stained New York Yankees cap, thought to be one of only three in existence worn by Ruth while on the field. It brought a record $328,000.
Prior to the sale, no hat belonging to a baseball player had ever sold for more than $100,000.
Ruth's first Hillerich & Bradsby bat, first used in 1918, it is widely regarded as one of his most significant, being his very first with the manufacturer. The bat sold for $537,750 at Heritage Auction Galleries in October 2009.
