The Atlanta Braves are a professional American baseball team based in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Atlanta Braves' history dates to as far back as 1871 when the team was called the Boston Red Stockings up until 1876. The team then changed their name to the Boston Red Caps from 1876 to 1882, followed by the Boston Beaneaters from 1883 to 1906, the Boston Doves from 1907 to 1910, the Boston Rustlers in 1911, the Boston Braves from 1912 to 1935, the Boston Bees from 1936 to 1940, and then the Boston Braves again from 1941 to 1952. The team moved to Milwaukee in 1953 and changed their name to the Milwaukee Braves until 1965; and then after a move to Atlanta in 1966 the team's name was officially changed to the Atlanta Braves.

The team has won three World Series titles since their formation (in 1914, 1957 and 1995) as well as 17 NL Pennants, four National Association Pennants, 11 East Division titles and five West Division titles.
Some of the most notable players who once played for the team include Greg Maddux (who played for the Braves from 1993 to 2003) Dale Murphy (who played for the team from 1976 to 1990), Warren Spahn (who played for the Boston/Milwaukee Braves in 1942 as well as from 1946 to 1964), and Jeff Francoeur (from 2005 to 2009), to name a few.
