Ali and Liston boxing gloves make $956K at auction
Muhammad Ali and Sonny Liston's boxing gloves worn during the famous 'phantom punch' bout of 1965 have fetched $956,000 at auction.
The auction also saw the only signed photograph baseball legend of 'Shoeless' Joe Jackson to have been authenticated by modern grading services sell for $179,250, almost doubling its pre auction estimate. Jackson was illiterate and rarely signed anything other than paychecks and legal documents, making his autograph one of the rarest in sports.
The items were sold as part of a sports memorabilia sale at Heritage Auctions which in total raised more than $9 Million in New York.
